Do You Know the Difference Between a Blog and a Traditional Site?
By Diane De Silva
Lately, blogs have become very popular among businesses as a promotion tool than their websites. Though there are many skeptics, blogs are being accepted by more and more people everyday and businesses are cashing in on this.
Blogs are very beneficial. Read on to find out eight reasons why blogs are better than traditional sites:
They’re more personal
Unlike websites, blogs are more informal and allow free exchange of any information. They show that real people are behind it, updating it frequently and that generates a feeling of trust among the visitors and improves business.
They’re short and sweet
A new entry in a blog is called a post. A post can be small or big. It can also have its own page and a link in case there’s extra information. Many posts can fit into one page.
Compared to a website’s page model system, blogs provide a more interesting format.
Blogs are frequently updated
To maintain interest, blogs are updated on a daily or weekly basis. This ensures fresh content every time, unlike some websites which rarely update their sites.
They’re cost-effective
Other than the initial amount required to buy a software license and hosting fees, you don’t have to pay for traffic and e-mail reports. It’s a very good deal and very cheap when compared to the average amount spent on a website.
Blogs can climb search engine rankings quickly
Bloggers and visitors watch the search engine rankings to determine which blogs are more popular. So, they use methods like RSS feeds, links with other blogs, etc. to increase their ranking, which website developers ignore.
Blogs can accommodate loads of information
For people who update their blogs everyday, unlimited content is necessary, which websites don’t offer for free. It also allows categorizes posts based on dates.
They’re based on newer technology
Blogging has become a rage in the recent years. This has allowed designers to use more advanced languages like CSS to add a personal touch to their websites.
They act as libraries
Blogs allow owners to archive all the posts they’ve made for a long span of time. This is useful to businesses as they don’t have to create back-ups of everything. They also don’t have to delete anything.
It also helps users and new employees to go through the archived posts to get an idea of what the business was before and how much it has developed. It’s also useful for your lawyers in case they need some information about your previous posts.
Some skeptics might have become believers after reading about these uses. If you’re not, just try opening a blog and posting something based on your area of expertise. The response it receives will definitely change your mind about blogs.
They have the potential to achieve a lot, especially since more and more businesses are warming up to the idea. If you don’t believe in promoting your products through blogs, you could use blogs to promote your website which promotes your products.
There you go. By now, you should have at least one good reason to start a blog. It’s a lot of fun. Try it!
