Turning Blog Visitors Into Loyal Readers

Getting lots of traffic from search engines and social bookmarking sites? Not enough of them visiting again? Maybe they didn’t like your content or maybe you didn’t provide a way to come back to your blog. There are lots of simple things that you can do to make it easier for them to come back.
Listed below are few of them,
- Highlight your RSS feed and ask people to subscribe, at the home page you can put up a message like “if you are new here you might want to subscribe to my RSS feed.”, in a single post page at the end you can put up a message like “if you like this post you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.”
- Add the RSS by E-mail option, very few people know what RSS is and very few use RSS readers like Google reader, but they do understand “get the posts by e-mail” right? So provide them a way of getting the posts by e-mail
- Add a bookmark button, there are plenty of sites that provide free bookmark button and adding a bookmark button at the end of the post encourage readers to book mark.
- Reply to comments as soon as possible, some visitors leave comments in your posts asking question, and are likely to visit the other day to check out the answer, if you take two to three days to reply to the comment chances of them coming back are pretty low, most blogging platforms allows you to specify a e-mail address where you get a notification if someone leaves a comment. Unless you are getting lots of comments enabling this is a good idea.
- Add a subscribe to comments option, self hosted WordPress users have plug-ins to add this and blogger also provides a comments RSS feed, this notifies people who commented on the post about all the new comments added after there comments, great way to get repeated visitors.
