Reciprocity is very powerful for anyone starting an online business here’s what it means:

Reciprocity

“A reciprocal condition or relationship. A mutual or cooperative interchange of favors or privileges, especially the exchange of rights or privileges of trade between nations.”

You may have heard of these phrases ‘You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours’ or ‘Do unto others as you would like others to do unto you’. If you are aware of these two phrases then you are on the right track to understanding what reciprocity is all about.

Basically, it means when someone offers us a favor or information without us having to do anything to receive it, we normally feel obliged to do a kind turn in return to that person. This is the Law of Reciprocity – but it goes a lot deeper than just exchanging a reciprocal favor.

When you are connecting with your customers or clients you should be providing MORE than they were expecting. To under promise and over deliver your services or products is the way to gain long-term loyal customers and build strong relationships for the future.

If you look again at the meaning of the Law of Reciprocity above you will notice the first part states ‘A reciprocal arrangement or relationship’  … this is exactly what you should be cultivating in your online business between you and your customers.

Best Blogging Platform – Which Blogging Platform Should You Use?

If you have spent any time searching for blogging publication platforms you have probably noticed that there are quite a few to chose from. Some of the more notable blogging platforms include WordPress (self-hosted version), Blogger, Bloglines, Text Pattern, Moveable Type, Serendipity, Life Type, and Flat Press.

All of these blog platforms are versatile and easy to use. However, WordPress is far and away the best choice for setting up your blog because of it’s astonishing versatility, astounding functionality, and incredible revenue generating potential. Even if you are not the least bit interested in making money but simply want to get the word out about whatever it is you are interested in, WordPress is still far and away the best blogging platform.

Many bloggers and would be bloggers don’t use WordPress because they feel it is 1) too difficult to set up and 2) too expensive to operate. Both of these reasons are common misconceptions and totally untrue.

1. Too difficult to set up – WordPress can indeed be a little difficult to set up if you have never FTP’ed before and know zero about scripts and coding. However, the difficulty you will have in setting up WordPress depends largely on who you host with. With godaddy.com, for example, you can set up a killer WordPress blog in less than 3 minutes just by pushing a few buttons.
2. Too Expensive To Operate – While WordPress is a free program, it does indeed cost money to setup and maintain as opposed to most of the other blogging platforms. But the cost of setting up and maintaining a WordPress blog is very small. Again, if you use godaddy.com, you can purchase a ‘.info’ domain for an annual fee of $1.15 and get quality hosting for less than $5 a month. In addition, you can have 25 blogs per hosting account. At $5 a month for hosting, you can have 25 WordPress blogs for a mere $0.20 cents per month.

So in reality, WordPress is both very easy to setup and very inexpensive to own and operate if you choose the right host. If you are interested in blogging because you want to make money from your blog (and you can easily make a small fortune from blogging) then a WordPress blog is a must and no self-respecting Internet Marketer will tell you any different.

Here are a few other reasons why WordPress is the best blogging platform:

1. You own your content – When you use other blogging platforms that are not self hosted your content does not really belong to you. This means that your blog can be pulled offline at any time and without any reason whatsoever.
2. Widgets – These are add on programs that can easily add a massive array of functionality to your blog. Most widgets are free and very easy install. Some widgets can even automate your blog content which means you never have to write a word
3. Easily convertible to a website – If need be, you can actually install WordPress and set it up as a website rather than a blog. This is a very nice feature, especially if you know next to nothing about web design or HTML code. Depending on the themes you chose to use you can actually create a very nice looking and super easy to update website with just WordPress. If you want to install WordPress and use it as a website, log into your control panel and click on “Reading” under the Settings tab. Simple select “A Static Page” and your blog will become a website!

Blogs have exploded in popularity over the last few years, especially among business owners and Internet marketing folks.

The reasons why are fairly obvious, at least for those of us who are familiar with blogging. It is, after all, an excellent way to grow your business presence online.

But for the marketer just getting started, the world of blogs can be a confusing one. In this article, I’d like to eliminate some of that confusion by explaining the top-three software programs that power most of today’s business blogs. I’ll also give you some tips on choosing the right platform for your needs.

How These Programs Work

Basically, a blog is nothing more than a website published in reverse-chronological format (with the more recent posts listed at the top). Behind the scenes, there will be some kind of content-management system at work, and this is what makes blogs so easy to use — the scripts and software do all of the logistical work for you.

Different blogging programs offer different features, but they all perform the same basic function. They convert your text into an HTML web page, known as a post. Best of all, they do this for you at the click of a button. You create your blog post by typing into a text area, much like you would create an email message or a Word document.

When you are ready to publish the new post, you simply click the “Publish” button and the program does the rest for you — converting your post into HTML coding, publishing it onto the blog, and even organizing it by category and chronology.

Which Blogging Tool Should You Use?

Before we go any further, we need to discuss an important point. The blog program you use is not nearly as important as the information you publish. So my advice is to experiment with the three platforms listed below, choose the one you like best, and then focus your energy on creating quality content.

With that being said, let’s take a look at the three most popular blogging programs in use today — WordPress, Blogger and TypePad. These are covered in no particular order.

1. WordPress

This is one of the most popular blog platforms. WordPress can be used in two ways. You can host your blog with WordPress, or you can download the program and install it onto your own web hosting account. In other words, it can be used as a hosted solution or a standalone solution that you run on your own web domain / website.

The creators of WordPress upgrade the program quite often. This can be good and bad. It’s good that they are always adding new features and what not, but at the same time it can be a real pain to upgrade it all the time (if you have it installed on your own web hosting account).

2. Blogger

Blogger has been around for many years, but Google now owns it. I’ve been using Blogger for quite some time (in addition to other programs), and in my opinion it is the most stable blogging program available. I haven’t had a single problem in many years of use.

While Blogger lacks some of the “bells and whistles” of WordPress and TypePad, it’s still an excellent tool with many benefits. Here again, you can use this program in one of two ways, as far as publishing goes. You can host your blog with Blogger’s domain (blogspot.com), or you can publish it onto your own web domain / hosting account.

3. TypePad

At this point, it’s worth noting that the two programs previously discussed (Blogger and WordPress) are both free to use. On the other hand, TypePad will cost you money. Prices vary based on the level you choose, from basic on up to “enterprise.” Many bloggers who use this program feel that it is well worth the price, especially if you’re looking for a more advanced solution with greater flexibility.

Experiment With Blogging Software

So which one is the right tool for you? Well, that’s a question you’ll have to answer for yourself. The good news is, it’s fairly easy to find out which one you prefer. All you have to do is try each program to see what they offer. You can (and should) experiment with most blogging platforms for free. Even TypePad, which costs money, allows you to take a free trial of their system.

Any of the solutions covered in this article can support a business blog. So here’s what to take away from this lesson. What you put into your blog (content, ideas, information and personality) is far more important than which software program you use to power it.
