I realise how out of touch I’ve become with the idea of being in my teens (it has been a while, after all). I can’t remember how much it bothered me to have a spot, and I didn’t have many. How will I cope if they have acne and I don’t know how to help them through it? Of course, I’ll have a great assistant that my mother never had to help me out when I get stuck.  Who? The internet – I’ll be able to refer to it whenever I get a difficult question I don’t know how to answer.#

You can Google just about any problem and find a solution or satisfactory explanation in seconds. Just a couple of examples – how to prepare your daughter for her first period, how to give them decent make up tips if you never wear any make up, what the best skin care routine may be for their type of skin.  I’m a water washer – I don’t even get as far as soap, so I’m no use for giving advice on how to cleanse, tone and moisturise. Well, that’s not quite true, I’ll be able to give the advice once I’ve looked it up; I just won’t have the personal experience to back it up! Then there’s hair care, should I encourage them to use Pantene or L’Oreal products?

Come to think of it, I’m going to set up my own blog – I’ll call it something like Parenting by Google – and any useful advice that I find on the web, I’ll post for other parents like me. Of course we want to do the best for our kids and guide them along life’s road, but we feel we’re still finding our own feet so why not make use of the internet as a guiding light?

Strong passwords

The first rule in internet security is to have a secure password. Avoid any words that are in the dictionary as password crackers will find these are child’s play to get past.  Mix alphabet letters, numbers and symbols to make it harder to work out the password.
