Today, many people use blogs in much the same way that they use websites. This includes using blog space to host banner exchange campaigns. Considering how easy it is to write blog entries, and attract attention of search engines, it should come as no surprise that placing banners on the site can help you generate income.
That said, when hosting banner campaigns, it is important to consider how your prospective reader will feel about the presence of banners. Chances are, you already realize that website viewers have their eyes trained to ignore the top inch of a site, because they expect to see a banner up there. In some cases, viewers may even be annoyed by the amount of time it takes a banner to load, or the distracting nature of animated banners.
Therefore, if you are intent on using your blog to sell a specific product, or set of products, you may want to save banner exchanges for another blog. Then, it will be easy for you to experiment with banners, and not lose your audience on a more established blog. On the other hand, if your main intent is gaining affiliate commissions from hosting banners, then you might want to at least look for banner exchange programs that will match your blog content as much as possible. In some cases (and you should definitely consider this!), you may even want to use your blog as a basis for starting a banner service that other webmasters can purchase banners and link services from.
